MW Keller Son Solicitors has grown from humble beginnings since Maurice Keller established the firm in 1941. Operating from our base in Gladstone Street, today we provide a comprehensive personal service to each of our clients.
Our firm has a rich history and while it represents commercial clients from across the country today, it is and always will be a proud Waterford law firm. Our founder, Maurice Keller was born in 1915 in the city and was educated in Waterpark , before travelling to University College Dublin where be qualified as a solicitor.
Maurice worked briefly in Kanturk and spent nine years at Kavin O’Shaughnessy’s practice in Waterford
before going out on his own in 1941 on Barronstrand Street. The practice was kick started when it received huge publicity after successfully detending Paddy O’Sullivan of M. O’Sullivan & Sons who had been found in possession of a significant amount of sugar in breach of the rationing laws of the time. These laws, which were in place during World War Two, were a considerable source of business to solicitors .
Another big break came the firm’s way when it was appointed as the local solicitor for the Irish Permanent Building Society. Income was inconsistent for small firms at the time and this feather in the cap ensured a steady number of clients receiving assistance from MW Keller. Maurice developed the practice largely due to his skill as an orator and regularly transferred his public speaking skills to the courtroom! In 1976. Mark began to work in the office, and his brother Niall joined him in 1982 as well. In 1989 they purchased the building we are currently based in on Gladstone Street. After extensive refurbishments, the premises were redeveloped into the state of the art offices we enjoy today.
